Single Photon Counting Confocal Microscope

The Luminosa single photon counting confocal microscope pairs highest data quality with remarkably simple day-to-day operation. It easily integrates into any researcher’s toolbox and becomes a time-efficient, reliable companion for scientists starting to explore the use of time-resolved fluorescence methodologies as well as for experts wanting to push the limits. Truly a microscopy system that everybody can rely on.

Our range of photon-counting detectors includes photomultiplier tubes (PMT), Hybrid photomultiplier detectors (HPD) and Single Photon Avalanche Diodes (SPAD) that cover different spectral ranges between the UV and the NIR. All detectors feature timing resolutions in the picosecond range, depending on model and operating conditions.

The PDM series of photon counting detector modules are all solid-state instruments. They have a photon detection efficiency of 49% at 550nm and generate a TTL output pulse per detected photon. With the fast-timing option (additional circuit board installed), they provide better than 50ps FWHM photon timing resolution.

We also offer the SPAD PDM-IR to bridge the gap in the NIR infrared photon detection.

Micro Photon Devices Srl (MPD) is a dynamic production and engineering company based in Bolzano. MPD was founded with the goal of leading the forefront research activities in single photon counting and picosecond timing of single photons. MPD currently produces and commercialises advanced single-photon counting modules with unmatched photon-timing capabilities and overall performance. Silicon SPADs  make it possible to conjugate high detector performance with miniaturisation, low power and development of integrated systems. SPADs in compound semiconductors extend photon counting applications to the near infrared spectral range up to the optical fibre wavelengths.
